When I visited Dubai, one thing I was really looking forward to was trying the local food scene. If you are a student living in Dubai, you will probably understand the struggle of eating the same tiffin or home-cooked meals every day! 😄
While travelling around Dubai, I tried food at a few Indian and Pakistani restaurants, and honestly, the taste was amazing. The best part is that many of these places are quite affordable, so you don't necessarily have to spend a lot for a good, filling meal.
If you are a non-veg lover like me, or simply bored with your regular tiffin, here are a few places you can consider visiting.
🍛 1. Pak Darbar – A Great Budget Option
Area: Dubai Marina and other locations
What I tried: Chicken Biryani / Chicken Peshawari
Approx. price: AED 20–30
Pak Darbar was one of the places I really enjoyed. The food has that familiar Indian/Pakistani-style taste, which is great when you are missing spicy, flavourful food from home.
Their biryani and chicken dishes are filling and reasonably priced, making it a good option for students.
👉 My pick: Chicken Biryani , Seekh Kabab & Chicken Peshawari.
🍗 2. Ravi Restaurant – A Dubai Classic
Area: Satwa/Deira
Famous for: Chicken & Mutton Karahi
Approx. price: AED 20–45
If you want to try one of Dubai's well-known Pakistani restaurants, Ravi is worth considering.
The atmosphere is simple, the portions are filling and the food is packed with flavour. Their karahi is the dish I would recommend to anyone who loves non-veg food.
It is also a good place to visit with friends because you can order a few dishes and share them.
👉 My pick: Mutton/Chicken Karahi with naan.
🍚 3. Student Biryani – For Biryani Lovers
Area: Multiple locations in Dubai
Famous for: Chicken/Mutton Biryani
Approx. price: AED 20–30+
As the name suggests, this is a good option when you are looking for a filling biryani without going for an expensive restaurant.
If you are a student missing the taste of South Asian biryani, this is definitely one to keep on your list.
👉 My pick: Chicken Biryani.
🥘 4. Daily Express – Near Internet City
Area: Near Dubai Internet City / Barsha Heights
Famous for: Karahi, Chapli Kebab and Pakistani dishes
Approx. price: AED 25–40
For students staying around Dubai Internet City, Barsha Heights or nearby areas, Daily Express can be a convenient option.
Their Pakistani-style food is flavourful, especially if you enjoy BBQ, kebabs and spicy curries.
👉 My pick: Peshawari-style dishes or Chapli Kebab.
🍛 5. Indus Cuisine – Near Internet City / Barsha Heights
Area: Barsha Heights
Famous for: Biryani & Pakistani curries
Approx. price: AED 20–35
Another option if you are living around Internet City or Barsha Heights.
I liked this type of restaurant because you get the familiar desi flavours without having to travel all the way to Deira.
👉 My pick: Biryani with a Pakistani-style curry.
🍗 6. Pak Punjab Restaurant – Al Barsha
Area: Al Barsha
Famous for: Chicken Biryani & Pakistani food
Approx. price: AED 20–35
If you are staying around Al Barsha, Pak Punjab is another place worth trying.
The food is reasonably priced and the portions are suitable for a proper student meal. Their chicken biryani is a good choice if you want something filling and spicy.
👉 My pick: Chicken Biryani.
🌶️ 7. Burns Road – Pakistani Street Food
Area: Dubai
Famous for: Pakistani street food & Biryani
Approx. price: AED 20–35
If you don't want a typical restaurant experience and instead want to try something with more of a street-food vibe, Burns Road is worth checking out.
It is a nice option when you are going out with friends and want to try different Pakistani dishes.
👉 My pick: Biryani and Pakistani street-food options.
🥗 One Thing I Loved About Dining in Dubai
One thing that genuinely surprised me during my food experiences in Dubai was the hospitality at many of these restaurants.
In several of the Indian and Pakistani restaurants I visited, as soon as we arrived and sat down, fresh green salad was served complimentary. 🥗
And at some restaurants, we were also offered complimentary soup before the main food arrived.
For me, this was a really nice touch. It may sound like a small thing, but when you are used to eating at restaurants in India, this level of complimentary service is not something you come across as commonly.
It made the whole dining experience feel more welcoming, especially after a long day of travelling around Dubai.
Of course, complimentary items can vary depending on the restaurant, branch and current offers, so don't consider them guaranteed. But whenever you do get them, it's definitely a pleasant surprise! 😄
📍 Which Area Has the Best Budget Food?
From my experience, if you are a student, these areas are particularly useful:
📍 Deira – Probably one of the best choices if you want a large variety of affordable Indian/Pakistani food.
📍 Al Quoz – Plenty of economical South Asian restaurants, especially useful for students staying or working nearby.
📍 Internet City / Barsha Heights – Convenient if your university or accommodation is around this area.
📍 Al Barsha – Good variety of Indian, Pakistani and South Asian restaurants at different price points.
💡 My Advice to Students
If you already have a regular tiffin service, you don't necessarily have to replace it. Tiffin is convenient for everyday meals, but once in a while, when you are bored of the same food or craving proper biryani, karahi, kebabs or BBQ, going out with friends can be a great change.
And if you are a non-veg lover like me, Dubai has plenty of options where you can enjoy familiar Indian/Pakistani flavours without spending AED 50–100 on every meal.
So, the next time you are bored of your tiffin, pick an area, call a few friends and go explore Dubai's desi food scene! 🍗🍛
Prices mentioned above are approximate and may vary depending on the branch, portion size and whether you dine in or order through a delivery app.
